- back: The Theo Roosevelt game preserve is west of the city, on the A P Highway, adjacent to Raven Rock (Daniel Boones Lookout). Horseshoe Mound is in Mound Park. One mile west of South Portsmouth (Ky.) the remains of an ancient Indian fort exist. The Ohio River was discovered by LaSalle in 1670.
