Pennsylvania postcard

mailed 1907 with a NY & Salamanca RPO postmark cancel

Pub by the Buffalo News Co (card has a typo in that it states TY vs BY) - #6586 / the Series 1902 red 2 cent Washington stamp seems to be mis-cut as well

When I was trying to see where the bridge was located, I found out that the bridge was partially destroyed in a 2003 tornado.  It was in service until 1959.  Restoration had begun in 2002 but wasn't completed when damaged.  Was the 4th tallest Railway bridge in the US.  Measurements were 2052 feet long / 301 feet high / 10 feet wide.  The face of the card stated it was the highest bridge in US, 301 1/2 feet high, 2100 feet long

view does show a fairly close up view, including a train running over the top on the train tracks - but what might be especially unique is that it appears that there is a man standing on the first train car

there are som pin holes to the card

  • Because of the age of the cards - they are noted as being USED - no matter if they are written on or not.
